Glassford Parent Council is very active and involved within all aspects of the School. And we want every parent or carer to be involved in some way – everyone has something they can offer whether it be skills, time, stewarding or just ideas! Watch out for posts here, details in the newsletters and information on Facebook and in local newspapers such as Echoes for information on whats coming up and what you could help with.
The Ragbag clothing bin at the school gate continues to be a great fundraiser for the school with us raising approximately £50 very time it is emptied. Another street collection has been arranged for 15th May, we will collect any bags from kerbs from 6pm on Sunday 14th May for you. Please keep a hold of any more bags you are clearing out and we will collect them (or if you need rid before then, contact Christine and we’ll store them for you). Any clothes, shoes, belts and bags will be greatly appreciated.
We are also going to arrange a party for all School pupils on Thursday 25th May, free of charge. 7-8.30 but more details to follow.
Our big event of the year is the Christmas Fayre. This was a great success and raised approximately £1950 for funds which is an outstanding amount. Thank you to everyone who played thir part in arranging and running this event.
The Parent Council is not just about fundraising of course – that is only one of our aims. We work closely alongside the teaching staff to support and help where we can. Previously we have looked at ways of limiting extra spend required of children at school. For example dress down days & less trips. You might have heard of the Cost of the School Day Toolkit being spoken about – this is a document that looks at the extra costs associated with attending school. We have held Focus Groups where we have discussed safety of children at school and home learning (another phrase for homework). If you are interested in finding out more or coming along to our meetings, please let us know.
The next meeting of the Parent Council will be the AGM which will be arranged for late August/ early September. If you have any comments, concerns or just general questions, you can get in touch with the Parent Council via glassfordpta@googlemail.com or speak to one of the Parent Council members Ms Donnelly. All parents and carers will be made most welcome at this and any of our meetings – any parent is eligible to attend, not just the named parent council members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any children at the meeting or unattended children in the school for the duration of the meeting.
